Your mental and emotional care should always be a personal choice.  Often times, people are limited to a pre-selected list of therapists that are able to offer services based on the insurance carrier.  In addition, insurance companies require a diagnosis that must be 'medically necessary' based off of the documentation provided.  While insurance is generally needed and required for physical care, it is not a requirement for your mental and emotional care.  While we strive to be very generalized in your documented treatment, insurance companies are allowed to request client information based of insurance claims submitted.

When you make the choice to pay for services directly, you are making the choice to seek consultation, counseling and/or therapy for any reason that you choose and that may not be 'diagnosis-related'.  Therapy services are often used for personal growth, stressful situations and life transistions as well as for chronic psychological issues.  Solution-focused therapy is a great way to maximize your time and money, focusing on the present and future goals.
